Marius-Andrei Balan/Khrystyna Moshenska won the WDSF World Open Latin Tournament in Tokio superiorly with a sizable lead. Marek Bures/Anastasiia Khadjeh-Nouri came fourth. Both couples had travelled to Tokio with the National Sports Director Michael Eichert, in order to represent the DTV. Michael  Eichert had been invited by the Japanese federation . In front of more than 4,000 spectators 68 couples danced in the Latin Tournament in Tokio, of which alone 10 couples were star couples, although the WDSF Grand Slam was taking place in Helsinki at the same time.

The WDSF had applied the evaluation system 2.1 in slightly modified form and had appointed 12 judges especially for the members of the Japanese National Olympic Committee who were present. A day before a press conference of the Japanese Dance Federation together with the WDSF with the motto "Dance sport for the Olympic Games in Tokio 2020" took place. WDSF-President Carlos Freitag und WDSF-Vice-President Michael Eichert were present. The interest of the media was enormous: 60 journalists and six TV stations followed the presentation in word and video and subsequently live with couples of the Japanese Federation and asked many questions.  The day before Carlos Freitag had the opportunity of presenting dance sport directly to the NOK in Tokio.
