Mr. Bill Irvine MBE, the dancesport legend, passed away at the age of 82 years yesterday. He was born on 30th January, 1926, to a miners' family. Mr. Bill Irvine MBE, the dancesport legend, passed away at the age of 82 years yesterday. He was born on 30th January, 1926, to a miners' family. As a young man, he went to spend a few years in South Africa, where he met his wife to be, Bobbie. In 1959, the couple returned to England and since then dominated the dance scene. Between 1960 and 1968, Bill and Bobbie Irvine won 13 world titles, the first one in Berlin in 1960. In 1967, as the first representatives of dancesport ever, they were awarded the Orden Member of the British Empire. After their active career, Bill Irvine and is wife Bobbie, who passed away as early as 2004, worked as trainers passing on their knowledge. Bill Irvine lead the British Open in Blackpool for 23 years until 2001.
